iPad first generation - black screen surround with a silver back

In obviously well used condition / comes fully boxed with a rubber casing plus a new charging/iTunes cable

I tried powering this up and the apple logo flashes on and off the screen, unsure if this needs a battery fitting or not? Worked fine the last time it was used, but obviously a few years ago!
