Victory vintage wooden jigsaw puzzle showing the ocean liner Mauretania. Approximately 300 pieces (this is not the smaller 80 piece version!), size about 15 x 11 inches or 37 x 29cm.

The ocean liner Mauretania was built at the Cammell Laird shipyard at Birkenhead for the Cunard-White Star line's transatlantic route, the same yard that built the battleship HMS Rodney about 10 years earlier. She was named after the previous Cunard liner Mauretania which was broken up in 1935. She made her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York in June 1939. Her peace-time service was abruptly cut short by WWII but she gave illustrious service as an armed troop ship, apparently carrying more than 340,000 troops during this period. She resumed passenger service after the war and was retired in 1965.

This complete puzzle (see last photo) is in nice condition with good colours. The original box is a bit faded, grubby and worn with old tape marks but is in sound condition structurally. It comes from a smoke-free home and will be carefully packed for delivery.
