Framed, completely hand-carved set.
152 tiles, all original to the set, so perfect for NMJL rules. Very good quality hand carved and hand painted tiles with a nice bone to bamboo ratio. Good example, bone is very good quality. Fabulous looking set, tiles are in overall, excellent condition, the paint colors are vibrant and the bone is shiny.
The White Dragons are framed with shou [longevity] and wan/swastika symbols, the wans increase the 'power' of the shou by 10,000.
Sometimes the wan/swastikas are actually combined into the shou, as shown in the last picture.
The #1Circles show a red shou surrounded by 5 bats [five good fortunes: long life, wealth, good health, morality and a good death]

Tiles are about 1 inch tall, approx 25 * 18 * 12mm. 4 bone dice as shown.
Carved Wood box, approx 11 * 7 * 2 inches approx. Sinograms on lid, box has restoration, losses and repairs, refurb, wear and tear. Is sturdy and hold the tiles nicely, displays well, as shown.

Mahjong sets that I sell were not made using modern methods. Pieces were commonly made by hand, up to 100 years ago. There may be variations in color and size. Over time sets may have been refurbished to mitigate wear and tear. The wood, bone and bamboo pieces may not all match perfectly in size, as most were carved, crafted and assembled by hand, this also includes the wooden storage boxes. Bone pieces may display haversian system and other natural cracks and markings. Do not wet the tiles, water based paints are usually used on these tile sets.
