A 19th century Blanc de Chine porcelain Buddhist lion standing on a pedestal.
Foo dogs, as they are commonly called in the West, actually depict lions that usually stand guard in front of Chinese imperial palaces and imperial tombs. They are usually depicted in pairs, with the male resting his paw on an embroidered ball and the female restraining a playful cub.
Probably late 19th century with a potter's stamp.
