AHRA Pro-Am Grand American Series Race in West Palm Beach Florida, Jim Nicoll was the top fuel winner over John Wiebe, Mart Higginbotham drove his “Drag-On” Vega to the funny car win over Gene Snow and the “Motown Missile” Dodge Challenger, driven by Don Carlton, was the pro stock winner over Jim Hayter, who was driving the Fred Gibbs Camaro.

Inaugural IHRA Championship Drag Racing Event which was held at Rockingham, Ronnie Martin / Robert Anderson were the top fuel winners over John Sinibaldi, Charles Therwanger / Mike Burkhart were the funny car winners over Roland Leong’s “Hawaiian”, driven by Butch Maas and Ronnie Sox was the pro stock winner over Melvin Yow
