Fabulous WW2 Era Maritime Brass OOW Telescope by John Lillie & Gillie Ltd (c.1940’s)

This nautical telescopic instrument is in good working condition and has a wonderful used patina. It’s made in North Shields by the famous instrument makers “John Lillie & Gillie Ltd” who were established in 1913 after John Lillie of London had got into financial difficulties. Wilson & Gillie of N. Shields kindly stepped in and and the new company was born. It wasn’t until 1943, when the company was reconstituted it actually bore the name that’s on the telescope.

The single draw instrument has been re-clad in canvas and decorated with 3 Turks head knots, probably by an experienced seaman on the ship. Overall fully extended it measures 25” closing to 17”, it has a sliding protector for the eyepiece and all the lens are chip free.
