This is a handmade vintage art glass sculpture by Leon Applebaum, a premiere American studio glass artist. He studied at Orrrefor’sand Boda in Sweden and earned his MFA in glass at the Rochester Institute of technology. The disc shaped sculpture has a cobalt blue rim and the color goes from clear in the middle and graduates to darker hues of blue. It has faint swirls in the glass which is part of the design. This 53 year old modern art piece is translucent and the hues vary depending on the light.   Please see pics. There are some light scratches and a few small bubbles.  It was signed by the artist in 1971 and is part of the contemporary style of the American Studio Glass Movement . The sculpture has a glossy finish with a textured matte pedestal. It weighs 3lbs. 8oz and measures 11.5 inches in diameter and 2.75 inches in height. This sculpture is a rare art glass piece and a family estate item.
