During their joint reign, the Roman Empire faced several significant challenges, including military conflicts with Parthia and outbreaks of disease. Lucius Verus was a competent military commander and played a significant role in the Roman campaign against Parthia. He also oversaw campaigns in Armenia and Syria. However, he was criticized by some historians for his excessive indulgence in luxury and pleasure. Lucius Verus died in 169 AD, possibly from the effects of the Antonine Plague that had ravaged the Roman Empire. Marcus Aurelius continued as sole emperor after his death. Lucius Verus was remembered as a competent military leader and a patron of the arts, but his legacy was overshadowed by his more famous adoptive brother.
