Late Victorian Royal Navy Engraved Solid Silver Boatswain’s (Bo’suns) Call & Silver Chain.

A boatswain's call, pipe, or bosun's whistle is a pipe or a non-diaphragm type whistle used on naval ships to pass commands to the crew when the voice could not be heard over the sounds of the sea. Because of its high pitch, it could be heard over the activities of the crew and bad weather.

This particular one is in fine fettle, well decorated and fitted with a solid silver chain with metal T-bar. The call is marked with “Stirling” with each of the links on the 13” chain, hallmarked with the Lion Passant, some have been worn away over the years and are vague, showing its age.
