Up for sale is a copy of California Illustrated including a Description of the Panama and Nicaragua Routes" by J.M. Letts. Published 1853 by J.T. Young in New York. I think this is a 2nd printing as it states, "Second Thousand". 46 full page plates present. There front title page says with 48 illustrations so missing two maybe although the number of illustrations varies by printing and I am not sure the missing two were ever included.
Book condition is a good news bad news. Bad news is that it is split down middle. It can be repaired but I don't do that. Boards have wear and loss especially front board. Spine is chipping and, again book is in two parts. A few pages are loose from the half they are on. On the plus side the plates are generally in good condition as are the pages. Some light browning and foxing, some light wear and small dings here and there. See photos for accurate condition assessment. This is a rare piece. See photos to get a better idea of condition. This has a major issue but it also in decent shape otherwise.
