THE U. S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY ATLAS FOLIOS WERE PUBLISHED FROM1892 TO 1945, AND ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO PROVIDE 15' QUADRANGLE COVERAGE THEENTIRE UNITED STATES. THAT GOAL WAS NEVER ACHIEVED BUT THE 227 NUMBERED, ANDHALF DOZEN TOPICAL OR EXPERIMENTAL ATLAS FOLIOS THAT WERE PUBLISHED PROVIDEFINE EXAMPLES OF THE QUALITY, SCOPE AND MISSION THAT MADE THE USGS THE PREMIER CARTOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION IN THE ERA PREDATING THE DIGITAL AGE.
Some folios may have loose wraps, worn, badly chipped wraps or missing spines, contents with marginal chips/tears to wide blank sheet margins, maps within printed borders are generally very good. Overall most of these are in very good condition for their are and the maps would frame very nicely with a mat. Please send a message if you have questions about specific folios and I can send pictures and more accurate descriptions of individual items. Map Folios are detailed below. Earliest ones were commissioned by John Wesley Powell. Each folio has its own unique condition, material and content. Overall most of these show soiling and wear and tear to the covers as expected for their age but the maps and inside pages all tend to be excellent, beautiful and the maps are lithographed in color. Awesome vintage stuff here! Original vintage geology folios over 100 years old!!! I am trying to keep the list as up to date as possible when these are selling so the list should be mostly comprehensive of what is in stock. Can be shipped flat or in a tube.
