Case forvpipes were frequently imported in the latter half of the 19th C. In this case we have a finest quality case, imported from Austria

The case is 13 cm long and 5.5 cm high

The pipe fits snuggly inside and the clasp closes it tightly

The pipe is 11.25 cm long and the bowl is 4.5 cm high.

The ring on the stem is hallmarked with the mark of Chester.

It is also stamped WHC. This is the mark for W H Carrington of Manchester. @ 53 Thomas Sreet.

The company was recorded as a Tobacconist and a dealer in fancy goods

It registered a mark at Chester in 1888 and Birmingham in 1891.
