Two things could have happened here that explain the tag.

First: In the 80s the manufacturer might have put the wrong tag on the apparel. 

Second: in 1976 A&F went bankrupt and closed, in 1979 until 1988 the name was purchased by Sporting Goods retailer "Osman Sporting Goods" and opened one store in Beverly Hills during that period. Its possible that during the struggle towards the end of the owner ship they sold other sporting goods brands at their A&F Beverly Hills location. 

In 1988 A&F was sold to The Limited who turned it into what A&F is today with the rebrand, shirtless ads etc. 

This was purchased at an Estate Sale in Los Angeles from a wealthy families Estate who had a lot of new clothes with tags from 70s all the way up to 90s.
