Offered is this silverplate dome lid for a large meat platter. The oval lid has a flared bottom with lip and a handle with a floral look base. The interior has a raised manufacturer's mark that looks like an animal lying down-possibly a horse, unicorn or maybe a sphinx, as well as another mark that looks like an arrow with some letters on the shaft, but the only one that is distinct is an S (see photo #7). I have not been able to identify the marks-it looks something like that used by Apollo of Paris, but lacks the adjacent lettering. In addition to the animal and arrow marks there are some other letters and numbers, as well, as shown. (If anyone has any information on these marks, please let me know!) Since I don't know who made it, I don't know how old the piece is but it is certainly old enough to be vintage and is probably an antique.

The piece is approx. 12 3/4" long, about 10 1/4" across and approx. 6 1/2" high, including the handle. Most of it is in very good to excellent condition, with a mirror-like finish to the plating, which to my eyes appears to be completely intact EXCEPT for a small area on the handle (see last photo). I see two very shallow small dents, some minor marks and some light scratches from handling and use, but what looks like a thin scratch in some of the photos is actually a reflection of our old TV antenna on the roof. There is some minor denting to the rim area, as well. The built-in hook for hanging is present.

At the time of original listing I had two other lids identical to this except for size, with some slight differences in the marks. Please take a moment to look at them and at some of the other items in my eBay store!
