Original, vintage U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary combination cover (service dress visor cap) with bullion cap device. The cap is size 7⅜. The cap is a “Bancroft’s Zephyr” made by the Bancroft Cap Company, Framingham, MA. The exact age of the cap is unknown, but it appears to be vintage. There is a label on the inside crown of the cap that reads, “Makers of fine caps for over 50 years,” and since the Bancroft Cap Company was founded in 1901, the cap may be from the 1950s - 1960s. Estate sale find.

Cap appears to be in excellent vintage condition with signs of wear and age, such as some frayed and/or loose threads on the white vinyl cover and black fabric bottom edge, and minor spots, rub marks, and/or soiling on the white vinyl cover. The blue fabric band appears to be in excellent vintage condition with perhaps a few frayed and/or loose threads. It also may be somewhat loose at the back of the cap. The interior leather/faux leather sweatband appears to be in very good vintage condition with some minor scratches, scrapes, abrasions, wrinkles, and creases, some areas where the gold printed lettering has worn away, an area along the bottom front edge where the surface of the leather/faux leather has been abraded, scraped, rubbed away, and/or deteriorated, and frayed and/or loose threads on the ribbon tying the sweatband together at the back of the cap. The plastic insert on the interior crown of the cap appears to be in very good vintage condition with fading, yellowing, discoloration, spots or stray marks, minor scratches, scrapes, and abrasions, wear and worn away lettering to the printed logo and manufacturer’s information, and some minor soiling from wear. The paper owner’s card appears to be in very good vintage condition with fading, yellowing, discoloration, soiling, and wear on the corners and edges. The bullion on the cap device appears to be in excellent vintage condition with some minor discoloration and oxidation along the bottom edge and perhaps a loose metal thread on the bottom. The bullion cap device has a very nice patina! There are some slightly frayed or “ragged” areas along the edges of the felt covering on the cap device backing. The silver brocade adjustable chinstrap appears to be in excellent vintage condition, with perhaps a few small loose and/or frayed threads. The chinstrap buttons appear to be in good vintage condition with scratches, scrapes, abrasions, oxidation and/or discoloration, and some loss of finish. The black visor appears to be in excellent vintage condition with some faint scratches and/or scrapes on the glossy top surface. The underside of the visor appears to be in excellent condition with a small spot or area of discoloration. A very nice example of a vintage U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary combination cover visor cap!
