  OVERKILL is from New Jersey on the East Coast of the United States. It was formed in 1980 with D.D. Vani (bass) and Rat Skeitz (drums). They are influenced by punk rock as well as heavy metal, D.D. is the stage name borrowed from RAMONES bassist Dee Dee Ramone and Rat Skeitz from The SAMED's Rat Scavids. The couple originally acted together on punk band THE LUBRICUNTS, and when the band broke up, they formed a new VIRGIN KILLER, and began working with their local friend Bobby Blitz Ellsworth (nicknamed VOCAL/Blitz from DEAD BOYS' Johnny Blitz), eventually calling themselves Overkill. At the time, the guitarist's position was quite fluid, and some of the guitarists who were replaced included Dan Spitz, who would later become known for ANTHRAX. It was in 1982 that Bobby Gustafsson joined the team and fixed the lineup for the time been made.
