This rare and rather ethereal lovely handmade Victorian apron is a unique piece of textile and fashion history. This pretty piece was found in a special collection of well-preserved family apparel at a grand old Westchester estate. The piece, which is in very good vintage condition, was obviously treasured for special occasions and stored with great care. Its generous length and handsome detail can add great character to a Victorian dress or skirt (see photos). The apron is distinctive for its Dotted Swiss cotton body—which playfully catches the light; its tiny hand-stitching—on both the tucking and the carefully gathered yoking; and it’s scalloped hand lacing across its bottom (see photos). The piece measures an impressive 36½” in length and about 32½”wide. The hand-gathered yoking is about 17½” across the front, with attached silk ribbon apron ties of 26” long on each side (see photos).
