On offer is a lovely example of a Wedgwood blue glass limited edition tankard. It comes in the original box and is complete with the Wedgwood dark blue faux-leather folder containing the limited edition certificate. The certificate confirms this is number 438 of 1000. Please look carefully at all the pictures as they form a large part of the item description.

The bicentenary tankard measures about 4" (10cm) high and the diameter across the top is about 4" (10cm). Produced by Wedgwood Glass the item is in a lovely shade of blue with an etched design. It was issued in 1977 to commemorate the opening of the Trent and Mersey Canal in 1777. The canal played a very important part in the moving of goods from the Wedgwood Etruria Works in Stoke on Trent. Before the canal horses had been used to move goods but many breakages occurred, the canal offered a much safer method of transport.

One side of the tankard is engraved with The Etruria Works of Josiah Wedgwood. On the other side is a cameo image of Josiah Wedgwood FRS 1730 - 1795. The original gold label marked "Wedgwood England" is still on the item but the "d" on England is a little rubbed. On the base is the Wedgwood England mark. There are no chips, cracks or restorations to the glass.

The box is with the tankard, and has the foam liner to hold the tankard safely in place. The box is a bit grubby and has age marking on it. One corner of the lid is split and repaired, and there is a bit of creasing to the lid and base. On one side of the lid is the Wedgwood sticker marked "Wedgwood Glass TANKARD Trent & Mersey Canal 438".

Despite minor cosmetic faults with the box this is still a lovely commemorative tankard. It displays well and will make a beautiful addition to any collection.
