A very fine antique italian 4/4 violin, labeled Anno 1742 Carlo Bergonzi fece in Cremona. The instrument is in ready to play condition with many bad repaired cracks on top, good ebony and rosewood set up, master made bridge and new strings. The violin has an excellent straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of strongly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The varnish of deep brown-reddish color remains in good condition. The whole length of the violin is 59,2 cm and the back 35,5 cm. The sound is very good, suitable for soloist.
