A CLEAR EXAMPLE OF THIS 3rd WATERMARK 5/- KANGAROO VARIETY: “BROKEN COAST NEAR SYDNEY & BREAK IN RIGHT FRAME" - ACSC 44(D)d - PLATE POSITION L2 - 2021ACSCCV$450 - THIS IS A LOVELY 5/- 3rd WATERMARK MARSUPIAL WITH A SCARCE "TOOGOOLAWAH" QLD POSTMARK - ALSO KANGAROO VIGNETTE VARIETY: "CLIPPED TAIL"
The 3rd Watermark printing of the 5/- GREY & YELLOW was made in December 1917. The stamps were placed on sale in April 1918. These marsupials were printed by J.B. COOKE to May 1918; then T.S. HARRISON to February 1926, A.J. MULLETT to June 1917 and lastly by J. ASH to late 1929. There were some 15 printings over this period totalling 2,341,320 stamps. This scarce 5/- Marsupial variety is listed in THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE KANGAROOS (2021) as:

This variety recurs at position L2 ... that is ... it is the 2nd STAMP on the LEFT PANE of the single '120-on' PLATE used for printing this issue. This example clearly shows BOTH L2 BREAKS as well as the CLIPPED TAIL and a striking "TOOGOOLAWAH" CDS Postmark. The ACSC lists this variety at $450 reflecting its scarcity in the 3rd Watermark. Notwithstanding some 'fluffy perforations' this is a beauty! The horizontal watermark line at the top confirms the top row position.
