The Cuban Poster Gallery appreciates your business!

Our price for this set of 2 screenprints is $249   We are delighted to offer this hand-signed, limited edition set of 2 mini-Pop Art screenprints, each saluting an icon of Mexican history and culture: the artist FRIDA KAHLO and the revolutionary EMILIANO ZAPATA.

These boldly colorful serigraphs were designed and hand-signed by California artist Jesus Barraza, whose screenprints can be found in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C.

A Mexican American, Barraza created these graphics to salute two of the most famous Mexican pop culture icons.

FRIDA KAHLO (1907-1954) was known for her vibrantly colorful portraits and self-portraits that often mirrored the pain and passion in her own life. She died at the age of 47.

EMILIANO ZAPATA (1879-1919) was a key figure in the Mexican revolution of 1910-1920 whose legacy includes the agrarian movement now known as Zapatismo. He was assassinated in 1919.

These two screen-prints, which each measure 6 by 8 inches (15.2 by 20.3 cm), were designed by Jesus Barraza in 2015 in his studio in the San Francisco Bay area. Only 40 copies were made of each screen-print. These two graphics are not framed, giving the buyer the option of framing them separately or in a single frame. Either way, they make a beautiful pair!

We have titled this eBay listing FRIDA KAHLO + EMILIANO ZAPATA #2 because Jesus Barraza also created an identical set of Frida/Zapata screen-prints in a different color. You can view this additional set (which is being sold separately here on eBay) using the key words FRIDA KAHLO + EMILIANO ZAPATA #1

Barraza's distinctive graphics have been displayed in museums in the United States, Europe and Latin America. Notably, his screenprints were included in a 2021 exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, titled "¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now,” which featured historic, civil rights prints alongside contemporary works by graphic art masters such as Barraza.

Born in El Paso, Texas in 1976, Jesus Barraza is also a frequent lecturer on graphic art and Chicano culture who proudly notes that his ancestors come from the Yaqui peoples of Durango, Jalisco and the Sonora Desert.

Overall condition of these screen-prints is good. (We never rate any of the screen-prints we offer as perfect because they are handmade). Since we have more than one set of these graphics in our stock, we have posted representative file photos of these two screen-prints. Buy with 100 percent confidence: all graphics purchased from the Cuban Poster Gallery on eBay can be returned for any reason within 30 days.
