The Anatomy of the Human Body by W. Cheselden. 9th edition with 40 copper plates engraved by Geo. Vandergucht. Printed in London for H. Woodfall, J. Dodsley, R. Baldwin, W. Johnston, Hawes, Clarke, Collins, W. Nicoll, and T. Cadell, 1768.

The plates are beautiful and were originally drawn with a camera obscura. The plates are pretty standard anatomy illustrations, but then we stumbled upon plate 33 which shows the genitals of a hermaphrodite 'negro'.

Good condition overall. Leather covers are heavily scuffed. Spine is cocked. Frontis is lacking, all other plates present. Left side of the fold is missing for plate 38. Several contemporary previous owner names and bookplate. Also illegible writing on the leather near the spine.
