About the Book:
Join the wonderful six month journey of a ten year old boy in 1918 as he recorded his daily activities in a small school notebook. His happiness is contagious as he built fires, played in the mud and slept in the hay. His natural kindness, industry and work ethic are inspiring and worthy. It's a time forgotten and brought to life as he writes in detail about about a childhood to cherish. Beautifully illustrated and designed to acquaint you with a ten year old who became a prophet.

Some Book Reviews:
Alison rated it & really liked it!
Reading this book was like taking a step back in time to 1918. Nan put together Howard W. Hunter's diary pages from when he was 10 and interspersed it with beautiful sketches, real pictures, news articles, and other information about that time. You get a neat glimpse into his family's life in Boise. Nan originally put the book together for her kids and grandkids, so it has a very personal feel to it. She also has questions on each page that help the reader to reflect on what they're reading or compare it to what their life is like. She did an amazing job. It's a family treasure, I'm sure, and a wonderful read for anyone else who admires Howard W. Hunter.

5/5 stars - The author brings to life what it was like to live in the early part of the 20th ...
This is a delightful book! The author brings to life what it was like to live in the early part of the 20th century in America – all seen through the eyes of a 10-year-old boy. The actual pages of Howard’s diary are part of the book along with many beautiful photographs – both black and white and color. Each page of this book is laid out differently so that it is fun to look at. We are introduced to Howard’s family and what his daily life was like so long ago. When Howard shares in his diary that he went into town and went to a picture show and laughed at one of his favorite actors, the author brings to life silent movies and what they were like. She has even included pictures of the movie stars from that time. We are introduced to some of Howard’s favorite books and activities and adventures through his diary complete with photos of those books and activities. We also see history through this young boy’s eyes. He writes in his diary about the Spanish Influenza Pandemic and the end of World War I. The author has included newspaper articles and photographs of other posters and leaflets that bring this history to life.

One of the things I loved about this book is that on almost every page, the author has asked the reader questions that would inspire the reader to write down his/her own thoughts and memories in a diary/journal. Questions like: What do you enjoy inventing, building, riding and repairing? What are the birthday traditions in your family? What games do you play? What do you wear to school? How do you get back and forth to school? Who is someone that is always a friend to you? Can you recall three happy moments in your home? What are they? Write them now…

I am an avid reader and have never seen anything quite like this book. It was so interesting to see life through the eyes of a 10 year old boy and to have the snippets of history included right alongside his diary entries is brilliant! I would highly recommend it for both adults and children.
