On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) antique map "Somersetshire."

DATE PRINTED: c.1850.

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 24 x 19 cm, 9.5 x 7.5 inches (medium) plus margins with a centre fold as issued.

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Drawn and engraved by Joshua Archer. Joshua Archer (c. 1792 - 1863) was an English cartographer, copperplate printer, and engraver active in London.

PROVENANCE: A map published in 'England and Wales delineated', also titled 'Curiosities of Great Britain. England & Wales delineated, historical, entertaining & commercial, alphabetically arranged by Thomas Dugdale, antiquarian, assisted by William Burnett'.  First published in 1835, the publication continued until 1860 by the firm of Tallis & Co.  Until c.1842, the publication used a map by Cole so the map printing can be dated between 1842 and 1860.  During this period the map was updated with new railways as they opened.

TYPE: Antique steel plate engraving printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

CONDITION: Good. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian paper is subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.  A few marks in the margins.

AUTHENTICITY: This is an authentic antique print, published at the date stated above. I do not offer reproductions. It is not a modern copy.  The term 'original' when applied to a print means that it was printed at the first or original date of publication; it does not imply that the item is unique.

RETURNS POLICY: I offer a no questions returns policy. All I ask is that you pay return shipping and mail back to me in original condition.
