Iron Range Airbase "Carved in the Cape York Jungle" is a book enriched by the first hand accounts of Australian and American veterans who served at the airfields at Iron Range.  Their words bring to light the drudge of living in such a spartan location, putting up with the heat, humidity, wet seasons, insects and snakes. The book also has many veteran photographs graphically showing the lifestyle and the tragedy of war they saw.
The book also include a number of dramatic aircraft crashes in the area with many brave men losing their lives.
Iron Range is a little known location in the grand picture of the Pacific War, but during the early parts of the war, it was a crucial and strategic base urgently needed to move the allied advance to the forefront of the war.
The book is a must have to anyone interested in Far North Qld Military History, and the many units (Australian and American) that made Iron Range home during World War Two.
