This Four Brothers SUMCO 2257 is in overall good condition. This model was introducted in 1934 and was produced until the early 40's. The reel came in a bright gun metal finish. Most of the reels available today have lost a good deal of their orignal finish. This example is no exception. Some of the original finish is remaining on the left side plate and on the inside of the reel. I have experimented with the Birchwood Casey Brass Black product on other SUMCO's I have and I was pleased with the result. It is a matter of personal preference but I prefer my collection reels to be in a condition similar to what they might have looked like out of the factory.  This reel has normal wear and finish loss as pictured. The reel is in very good mechanical condition. The free spool and click work as designed and the reel spins freely when engaged and when it is in free spool. This reel is a very nice addition to any Pflueger collection.
