Another great piece from The Swami's Private Stash! I do love my mahogany bodied G&L's that's for sure. But with over 40 G&L basses still hanging around the house it's time to pick & choose a few more to sell. I'm actually selling the good ones first so don't think this is a Fire Sale! This is one fantastic bass, very clean and well-taken care of. Always stored and played in my home only, this bass has never seen a smoky club or been 'roughed up'. The gloss finish over the mahogany body is in excellent condition and the wood has a beautiful grain to it. Kind of reminds me of some cool 60's Gibson EB basses I owned over the years. After 40 years it certainly has a few nicks & dings along with 2 small chips along the back edge. But the finish is nice & uniform without the heavy checking that is common to early G&L basses. Weighs a reasonable (in G&L speak) 10 1/2 lbs and is well-balanced.

The maple neck with rosewood fretboard is also in great shape; I dare say the frets look unplayed from the first to the 21st fret. I attribute that to nickel strings and a light touch but having 61 other G&L basses to choose from had a little to do with that. There are two shallow nicks behind on the back curve of the neck roughly behind the 3rd fret. If you are not aware of them you certainly can't feel them when you're playing the bass. The pickups are the 'usual' L2000 setup with a 9-volt preamp, volume/bass/treble controls and 3 micro switches for active/passive, tone contour and the pickup selector. As a true transition model this one sports the crinkle black finish on the bridge, control plate and neck plate. The pots date the 6th week of 1983 making this by far the earliest one I have owned with the crinkle black hardware. Includes an SKB case that fits the bass well and as far as I'm concerned, offers the best protection of any molded case.
