Here is a very nice high quality Staunton pattern Chess in its original box to store the pieces (the box is old and has marks and splits in places & the lid does not close properly anymore due to wear in the slide grooves). It seems like the wood maybe boxwood but I am unsure as it is old. I think the black side seems to be stained or ebonized wood but I am unsure. The white side has a really nice aged patina. The pieces have nicer and finer carved designs compared to other similar style chess sets as can be seen from the photos. The relative piece proportions are also balanced nicely.

These pieces are great for any player especially beginners due to ease of handling and simplicity of design which you can easily distinguish the pieces. The pieces are not weighted or felted which is good because these sets tend not to split it warp easily over time . The king stands approx 8cm tall with a base diameter of about 3cm. The knights are carved particularly nicely and the bishops have a nice shape. All pieces are original to this set with no major known issues or replacements. Some pieces may show a age discolouration. The set is by K&C but it is quite old as can be seen from the patina which consistent amongst all pieces. The box is it’s original. A nice medium size smart looking set which would go well with a suitable board. A wonderful example showing its age.

There will be wear here and there as the item is not new, but the overall condition is very good as in the photos and you will have a fun game. The knights may have been originally glued on their bases or repaired at a later date which is normal. Expect marks dents, minor age splits etc due to age.
