This listing is for a vintage Kohlert & Co. "Winnenden" alto saxophone. It is stamped "Made in Germany". The serial number is 13,376, which indicates a mid-1950's production date. This was a pro model horn of its day. It features rolled tone holes, and some nice engraving on the bell.

This horn is being sold as is. I did a brief play test, and it actually played pretty decent down to low D (despite half the neck cork missing), but it definitely isn't in proper playing condition. This horn probably could be restored to playing condition with a handful of pads replaced, and some adjustment, but a full overhaul would be advised for optimum playability.

Physically speaking, this horn is in overall very good condition. The body is straight, and the neck has not been pulled down. There are a handful of minor pings and nicks, but no significant dents or dings to speak of. The lacquer finish has aged to a dark honey hue. It shows specking wear throughout. There are a couple of keyguard feet that need to be resoldered. The keys are all moving freely and rebounding properly/quickly when released, and the rollers are all turning. The pads are old, but the leather still seems reasonably soft and supple. Incidentally, the pads are very similar to the vintage Conn res-o-pads, with a metal hoop around the exterior, which holds the leather taut.

This horn comes in a vintage hard, wood shell case. I'm not sure if it is original or not. It has a cool faux crocodile exterior. The case is solid, with normal wear and tear. The latches still spring open. There is some loose fabric and blocking on the interior, and it is slightly musty smelling.

There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories, included, except for an end plug.
