This is a meticulously rebuilt JVC HR-S9600U Super S-VHS/VHS VCR. JVC is renowned for producing high-quality VHS/S-VHS VCRs, and the HR-9600U is no exception. It delivers excellent picture quality and is a reliable option for viewing and transferring VHS and S-VHS tapes. Notably, it features a built-in Time Base Corrector (TBC) that effectively enhances the playback of old VHS/S-VHS tapes.

Cosmetic condition: The face of this VCR has been properly and professionally repaired repaired. You will see these repairs on the face in the photos. I have highlighted these repairs in the photos. This has no effect of the cosmetic condition, and these cracks are fairly common on various places on the face of these VCRs, so I am accustomed to repairing them. Also please note cosmetic "spots" on the face of the VCR. These are purely cosmetic, but I wanted to make sure it was noted. That said, this VCR is very clean because I completely disassemble every single part of these VCRs to complete a thorough, deep clean to removes dust, grime, foreign debris etc. that are found in these 25 year old VCRs. I have a feeling that some point, a type of of oil-base chemical or pant was accidently splashed on the VCR's face, and this is why these "spots" can be seen.

***Dynamic Drum Feature Disabled*** - The "Dynamic Drum" function, originally designed for smooth slow-motion effects like sports replays, has been disabled due to its problematic nature over time. JVC's original design had fragile gears that are now unavailable. I have developed a method that largely bypasses the original gearing system, maintaining long-term functionality using custom-designed, high-quality 3D-printed gears that have undergone extensive testing. This feature is disabled in my units since most customers use them for digital archiving, which does not require the Dynamic Drum. Disabling this feature has no impact on video or audio quality for digital archiving.

What Does "Fully Rebuilt" Mean? This item has been completely disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up. Every aspect, from mechanical components to electronics, has been meticulously examined and refurbished or replaced as necessary. It essentially represents a restoration to factory or near-factory condition. While it may exhibit minor signs of prior use, it is designed to perform exceptionally and reliably, often surpassing its original capabilities. This effort includes:

  • Disassebly and deep clean of every component of the VCR
  • Rebuilding the tape mechanism
  • Replacing belts
  • Replacing or fixing mechanical parts as needed
  • Repairing failed or near-failing electronics (capacitors, ICPs, diodes, MOSFETs, etc.)

Pre-Shipment Checklist Process:

I adhere to a thorough pre-shipment checklist to test each feature and function of the VCR extensively, ensuring it is fully operational before shipment. Given the delicate nature of vintage electronics, this detailed process, refined over years of experience, is crucial. My listings typically include a 3-business-day turnaround to allow for this meticulous inspection. While I may occasionally ship sooner, this step is vital to guarantee that your VCR arrives safely and in full working condition.
