• I'm a pushover for anything dog related that's well made, vintage or unusual.  I'm partial to vizslas and currently have two.  The youngest (5) of which recently had $6000 worth of surgery (she's fine now) hence the push to list more items.  But I've always wanted a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from the moment I first saw one in a dog show and we had Cockers when I was young and they're so adorable. They both have those great eyes - and ears!
  
• I went back and forth with the breed of this figurine.  While it could be parti colored Cocker Spaniel pups (British or American) it also could be Cavalier King Charles Spaniels - a breed which was recognized by the British Kennel Club in 1945 which would work out time wise.  To me the head shape and coloring is much more Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  Now I'm probably overthinking all of this and maybe the maker just made a kind of generic mix?  But it's well made and I hate to think that.
• I'll let everyone else be the judge I guess - either way it's adorable.
  
• the few I've found are attributed to Shafford, which I've never heard of until today.  They have the feel of old Lefton figurines, a nice quality that's hard to describe and the look is similar as well.
• Shafford was made in Japan
  
• This figurine has a very old piece of green very fine felt applied to the base, which I could remove and see if there are any marks, but I'll leave that up to the buyer.  It's a very high quality old feeling felt and it would be helpful to anyone who wishes to place this on a surface that might easily scratch.  So I'll assume that everyone that has a sold figurine identical to this is correct and it's a Shafford figurine.
• I've read that Shafford operated from the 1940s through the 1970s. 
  
• I feel like this dates to the 1940-50s and that's a fairly educated guess.
• It stands about 3.5" inches tall and 4.5" wide.
• Excellent condition with no chips or cracks but it does need a bit of a cleaning - which is a bit hard to do with the felt on the base which is another reason I'm leaving that decision to the new owner. I did go over it after the photos with a clean toothbrush I save for things like this and there is much less dust.  It does have a "patina" but it's not unpleasant or unsightly as you can see.
