1830's stampless cover/letter from Jackson, TN to Abington, MA.  The undated letter folds upon itself to form a cover for mailing purposes, and it has a faint raised seal (largely illegible).  It goes on for over two full pages and discusses the sender's trip and safe arrival in Tennessee.  The trip took 16 days due to bad weather, which delayed the river journey.  Along the way, the ship passed through areas along the Ohio River which was experiencing a severe cholera outbreak, where numerous bodies of the dead were being laid out to be collected.  The letter also discusses observations about slavery in Tennessee.

The cover has a cancellation reading September 6 (Jackson, Te.)," and there is a handstamped "10" at top right, which pertains to the delivery fee.

The cover is in excellent, clean condition, with just a tiny tear from where the wax seal was opened.

It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of early American postal history, particularly of Tennessee or Massachusetts.
