A LOVELY SINGLE WATERMARK 4d PALEORANGE KING GEORGE V SIDEFACE VARIETY: “WHITE FLAW ON SECOND LOWEST WATTLE AT LEFT AND WHITE SPOT OVER 'FO' OF FOUR" - PLATE POSITION 2R59 - ACSC 110(2)ve - *UNUSED NO GUM

The SINGLE WATERMARK printings of the King George V Sideface Series were first made between 1914 and 1915 (perf 14 & perf 14.25). After the early printings, there were five more issues from 1918 through to 1924 in various denominations on SINGLE WATERMARK paper. The 4d ORANGE was printed by J.B.COOKE and then T.S. HARRISON from 1915 to 1921. It was used as the Combined Registration and Letter rate within Australia and British Empire; Make-Up use for higher charges; the 2nd Letter weight step, and for Commercial Papers to foreign countries from 1920. There were eight printings totalling 32,580,000 stamps.

The definitive reference for the Australian King George V stamp... THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS CATALOGUE "KING GEORGE V" lists this variety as: ACSC 110(2)ve: “WHITE FLAW ON SECOND LOWEST WATTLE AT LEFT AND WHITE SPOT OVER FO OF FOUR" - Plate Position 2R59. This example is very nicely centered with bright colour and is in *UNUSED (no gum) condition. Still very lovely from the front with nice centering and perforations. The horizontal watermark line at back adds to the Plate provenance for Stamp 59.
