Wilkinson's (Warwickshire) Copper Halfpenny Token 1792
 'Iron Master & Vulcan'

  John Wilkinson's (Warwickshire) copper halfpenny token dated 1792.

Obverse: Bust of John Wilkinson with legend: “IOHN WILKISON IRON MASTER.”. Reverse: Vulcan seated hammering on anvil behind which is a ship with legend: “HALFPENNY. 1792”.
Edge inscription: “PAYABLE AT ANGLESEA LONDON OR BRISTOL.”.

The Wilkinson Series was wrongly attributed by Dalton & Hamer to Warwickshire and should have been included in the Shropshire section. John Wilkinson was one of the leading iron masters at the end of the eighteenth century and, more importantly for collectors of Conder tokens, the second person to commence their issue.
