A very fine antique italian 4/4 violin, labeled Sanctus Seraphin Utinensis fecit Venetiis Ann 1738. The instrument is in ready to play condition with many old repaired cracks on top and sides, grafted scroll, bushed peg-holes, new rosewood set up, new Aubert bridge and new strings. The violin has an excellent straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of strongly flamed wood with matched sides. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The varnish of deep brown-reddish color over golden ground remains in good condition. The whole length of the violin is 58,6 cm and the back 35,4 cm. The sound is very good, suitable for soloist.
