This mouthpiece is an example of the wide range of creative devices that were invented and patented during the 1920's and 30's when Jazz and Swing Band music was becoming popular not only in the U.S.A, but in Europe as well. It was invented in 1924 and eventually patented in 1927 by Tom Slechta, a trumpet player and novelty band leader in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was hand crafted in small quantities and was distributed primarily in the central and eastern areas of the county. This is offered for auction as a collectible item of interest primarily to trumpet mouthpiece collectors, brass instrument collectors, Jazz and Swing Band historians, etc. It is not considered to be appropriate for present day performance except for recreating the sounds for educational or humous effect (etc.).  The mouthpiece features a medium-shallow modified V cup with a rim diameter of OD = 26 mm and ID = 5 mm. The interior of the mouthpiece is plated with silver, and it has a standard taper shank. The mouthpiece is made of brass and has a unique adjustable "Tone Modifier" mechanism. It is designed for use with a trumpet. The mouthpiece is silver plated.
