This listing is for a vintage C.G. Conn oboe. It is a model 6Q, also known as a "New Wonder". This is a wood instrument with conservatory system key-work, including a low Bb key. The serial number is "C214267L", which indicates a c.1928 production date. The serial number is matching on both main sections.

This instrument is being sold as is for parts or repair/restoration. Unfortunately, I am not able to test it, as I do not play double reeds (I am primarily a sax player). The buyer should assume that it will need work to be made playable, possibly up to and including a full overhaul. Please continue reading for more details on the condition of this instrument. I strive to be as thorough as possible, but please understand that I can't detail every minor imperfection. Please check out the pictures carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions prior to purchasing.

This instrument seems to be in overall very good physical condition. I do see one repair...there is a post at the top of the upper joint that looks to have been re-installed with epoxy. There might have been a minor crack in the vicinity, although it is difficult to tell for sure. I don't see any other cracks, or past crack repairs. There is some scratching at the top of the lower joint, but it is only on the surface, not visible inside the bore. There are no chips, but there is some gouging of the wood on the bell. The keys are all moving freely. The plating is tarnished, but there is no noticeable wear to it. Like most oboes, the pads are a mix of traditional style skin pads and cork pads. They actually don't look all that bad, but I would plan on all new pads just to be on the safe side. The instrument could definitely use a good cleaning, polishing of the keys, oiling of the wood, and lubrication of the mechanisms. This instrument comes in a modern plastic shell case. The case is in very good condition with minimal wear and tear. There are no reeds or accessories included.
