AD 610 - 641 Ancient Heraclius Gold Solidus Coin from the Byzantine Empire - Constantinople Mint

The coin is around 1400 years old. It's amazing that they could make coins this nice without having anything like the tools we have today.

The coin itself without the surround is approximately 4.4 Grams of 23.5 Carat Solid Gold, and the total weight including the surround is 6.3 grams on my digital scale.

The diameter of the coin is approx 22.5mm

The Surround itself is not stamped due to the age of it I would think, but it's too much of a rich yellow to be 9 Carat Gold, so I would say it is at least 14ct or possibly even 22ct Gold (but this is just my opinion). The surround is quite crudely made, but still very nicely done where it matters most.

Struck between the years of AD 610 - 641 The Obverse features of Heraclius and possibly his son standing in very nice detail, and the reverse shows the cross potent on 3 steps. Below are the letters CONOB indicating it was struck at the Constantinople Mint. It also has VICTORIA on one side but I'm not sure what it says on the opposite side.
This coin is in really nice condition for a coin that is approximately 1400 years old with all fields that are very clear.
The Coin fits very firmly in it's surround so does not spin around. I have seen quite a few of these coins but never mounted in a very old and well made surround.

This coin would be a very nice addition to any collection as it is very different from the normal Sovereigns or Krugerrands that people wear.
