The five-sided star which is a separate superimposed part made in SOLID 14 K GOLD, while the pentagonal starburst is in SOLID SILVER. The golden star is attached to the starburst by rivets. The suspension device is in gilded silver and beautiful “hot-baked” enamel. The inscription on the suspension reads “Mother-Heroine”. The reverse of the medallion has an engraved individual serial number which was unique for each medal (and at least in theory, may help to identify the recipient through the Russian archives.)

The  five-sided star measures 31.3 mm in height,27.7 mm in width, and weighs 12.1 grams (not including the suspension and connecting link). The total weight of the medal with suspension is 16.9 g.
