A very nice and interesting pair of Bandsman's shoulder add-ons, referred to as swallow's nests or bird's nests. They are black wool with white cloth tape. They are meant to be worn on the shoulder, and slip onto the cloth epaulet and then have hooks to secure the points. They are very well made, and the white cloth tape that binds them is figured with roping at the curved side and chevrons on the straight side and between the visible sections of black wool. They are a little unusual as the stripes are slanted, whereas they are more frequently straight.  I suspect that they are piper's swallow's nests, but only because of the source, who was himself a piper following a career in the SAS. I believe they are British, but it is possible they are from a different country. The wool looks British to me.  They are probably a design specific to one regiment, almost certainly Scottish. These are scarce for any regiment. They are 3 1/4 inches tall and 10 inches wide at the base.
