The perforations of the Penny Red started with Plate 176 (although several earlier plates have both Perf and imperf issues)

At this time it was increasingly difficult to accurately plate as the the production became more accurate particularly with the better positioning of the corner letters. Therefore when corner letters are offset ,as with this stamp, the opportunity to Plate is offered.

The offset of the perforations is  almost usual at this time, until techniques were improved. This is a nice copy of Plate 195 with Alph 11 letters significantly offset, particularly “R”
