This 8S Waltham Pocket Watch has seen very little use and shows only the slightest evidence of wear. The case was made by the Brooklyn Watch Case Company, hence the left looking eagle hallmark at the base inside surface of both outside covers. This hallmark was BWCCs Trademarked Logo for 8K Solid Gold. A Google Search should yield many references that corroborate this. In addition, upon streak testing, all of the components of the case are positive for 8K. The movement is a Model 1873 with an approximate production date of 1880. Amazingly, this 144 year old time piece shows very little wear, does run and keep time. It has a 7 Jewel Lever Set Movement that does function well in setting time. I do NOT know its service history, so a service and cleaning might be prudent.
The case looks like it was barely used or worn. The outside of the front cover is ornately carved in a Floral Motif with an unengraved oval just below the center, nested in foliage. The outside of the back cover is carved identically to the front with the exception of the oval, which here is personalized with a Hacienda and Foothills. The inside of the outer back cover is struck with an "18" Symbol in relief over "96551" incised over the Eagle Hallmark in relief. Multiple tiny service remarks are also hand scratched into this surface. The outside of the inner back cover is blank. The inside of the inner back cover is incision struck "96551". The marks on the inside of the front outer cover are identical to those of the back outer. The case with the movement weighs 59.5 grams. For more specifics, please see my images or ask questions.
