Up for sale are two (x2) Sony Handycam CCD-TR202e Video8 Camcorders.
These are very nice compact video8 camcorders from 1993. Great for the retro video enthusiast! Both units have been fully electronically refurbished and tested working fine. They will record and play video8/8mm tapes. Including recordings from other cameras. In both SP or LP formats.
These cameras would be great for a retro video fan wanting to create vintage effects. If you need to playback old tapes for archiving I'd recommend a more newer Hi8 camera with Y/C output for transfer not these units. While they would work fine for the job a Hi8 camera would give better results.
I've labelled the cameras #1 and #2 temporary with masking tape for identification.
Both units are in good to average condition for there age. Both have various scuffs and scratches from use but nothing major.
Camera #1 has a missing rubber foot on the underside. The viewfinders pull out extension eye piece is a little loose. (does not affect operation) Some tape could stop it from moving. (See pictures)
It's also worth me mentioning that both cameras make a light tapping noise when fast forwarding or rewinding. This is nothing to worry about as it is just part of the tape tensioning mechanism. It just seems loud in some cameras. Does not affect operation or effect tape health. Both cameras record and play perfectly fine.
I have fitted new coin cell to camera #2 for the date and time. However the date only goes up to the year 2020 the resets back! I've set the year to 2014. These are 30+ year old cameras remember! Camera #1 has no cell installed.
Camera #1 had a damaged microphone mesh originally. However I have replaced the front case part from another spares camera. (This is from a CCD-TR303 so has a window for an IR remote sensor. The CCD-TR202 does not support a remote control.) I will include the damaged one. (See picture)
Camera #2 has a small mark on the inside of the lens. I believe this is from a previous owner and does not affect operation. Does not appear on the video image.

No batteries are included. These can be still purchased else where. Do a search for "NP-55 Battery"
As mentioned both of these camcorders have been fully refurbished and tested by myself. This includes a full electrolytic capacitor replacement and head drum/tape path clean. They have both been extensively soak tested and checked with no problems. I have used modern high quality capacitors from UK based suppliers. (Rapid, Farnell and RS) I have used more reliable modern leaded parts instead of SMT. There was no solder pad damage on both cameras. I have included 2 pictures of my desk area for reference when I was working on one of the cameras last month. I am an experienced electronics hobbyist with an interest in retro analogue video cameras. I am familiar with this model of camera and its variants. I have repaired and sold a couple of old camcorders recently and many others some years back. This is a very tedious and time consuming job, but I wanted to bring some old cameras back to life for people to use and enjoy!
