Up for sale is a vintage catalog of "American Type Faces" issued by the American Printing Co., Ltd, of New Orleans, Louisiana.  It appears that this catalogue was something of a trial run as the following language appears on the front cover of the catalog:

"It is a very complex matter to issue a type catalogue that is completely usable and practical.
This is a temporary issue printed and sent to our customers so that they may make suggestions for changes and improvements.
Your cooperation will be appreciated."

The catalog consists of 74 numbered pages, plus 2 blank pages at the back, and the covers.  It measures about 8.5 x 11 inches and has a stapled binding.  The Index page (page 2, photo #3 of this listing) shows that the following type faces were included:  Bodoni, Century, Coronet, Granjon, Memphis, Roman, Scotch, Spartan, Stellar and Vogue, and Miscellaneous (a category which includes Coronet Bold - Ludlow Composition; Granjon with Italic and Small Caps; Cheltenham Bold with Bold Italic; Cheltenham Condensed with Bold; Scotch with Italic and Small Caps; Flash; Torch; Keynote; and Old English).  In addition, more than 20 pages were used to introduce a variety of different rule borders.

As noted above, there are several pages with pencil marks.  The one on page 1 (see photo # 2 of this listing) deserves comment.  The initials "L-O" appear in the upper right corner.  This publication was part of the library of Dr. Milburn Calhoun, owner of the Pelican Publishing Company.  Many of his volumes came from the previous owner of the company, Stuart O. Landry, who had the habit of marking his books with "L-O".  Calhoun bought Pelican from Landry in 1970, so this book predates that year.

On page 1, reference is made to the American Printing Company, Ltd having "more than sixty years of experience".  I found a classified ad (basically a printed business card) for American in a 1934 issue of of the New Orleans Times Picayune.  The ad contains the dates 1899 and 1934, which likely represent the year of founding and the (then) current year.  If American was founded in 1899, then this catalogue could not have appeared earlier than 1959.

I was unable to find any other examples of this catalog for sale, either in its "temporary issue" format (that I am selling) or in any follow-up issue that might have resulted from the solicited customer suggestions.  The February 6, 1972 issue of the Times Picayune lists the American Printing Co., Ltd, as having "dissolved".

Please see above for complete description of condition and for photos. Sold as is.
