Extraordinarily rare Meji era Japanese Cloisonné paneled floral, bamboo, and bird motif inkwell, which firmly exhibit’s characteristics of the work of the Kyoto school. I am thinking Ota Tomeshiro. The glass insert fits but may not be the original. Measures 2 1/2” high and 3” by 3”square. Very heavy well constructed piece. Wonderful work on the top with the butterfly being beautifully executed. Very precise placement of wire work, and there is goldstone throughout. The effect achieved in the enamel work with the goldstone is spectacular. The inkwell is in very nice condition. No chips, cracks, or loss of enamel. Overall excellent for this age of cloisonne. Please feel free to email with any questions.
