Original watercolour design for a greeting card by Edwardian illustrator Richard James Williams. The 13.7 x 20.1cm ink and watercolour illustration is on card, with the artist's studio stamp on the reverse. The subject is a family of rabbits, some holding carrots, beneath which are the lines:
"Throughout whatever paths we range,
Time changes, but we need not change."

Richard James Williams (1876-1964) was head of the Worcester School of Arts and Crafts, and editor of their periodical, The Three Pears. He also illustrated several children's books, as well as designing posters and greetings cards. Prints after his work can be found in the British Museum and a number of his original illustrations were sold at Christie's South Kensington in 2005, where it is thought this design came from. I found a photograph of the artist online (see final image - not included in this auction), in which he is seated at his desk beside a cartoon rabbit.
