A very fine antique italian 4/4 violin, labeled Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, nella Contrada di Santa Margarita, al Segno della Sirena, Milano 1770. The instrument is in ready to play condition with no cracks and new boxwood set up. The violin has an excellent medium to high grained spruce of the top and one piece back of softly flamed maple wood with matched sides. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The varnish of golden brown-reddish color over golden ground remains in good condition. The whole length of the violin is 58,8 cm and the back 35,9 cm. The sound is very good, suitable for soloist.
