Harman Kardon PM655 dual mono amplifier.

Vintage, classic eighties amplifier in very good overall condition. Some minor marks to the casing and one or two to the top/upper section of the fascia but otherwise extremely well preserved. I’d conservatively rate it a 7.5/10 for overall cosmetic condition. Looks great in my rack.

Sounds fantastic used for streaming. Genuinely competitive with numerous current amps that I’ve heard in the £2000-£2500 (and above) range, including the Sugden a21 Signature, the Atoll in300 and the Exposure 3510 all of which I’ve owned and re-sold or traded in the last 2-3 years. I’m only contemplating selling it as I’m about to take delivery of an Accuphase e202 and probably should let something go, if only to reassure myself that I’m not turning into some kind of hifi hoarder.

That said, if this listing sits on eBay for multiple years then that’ll be fine with me. It genuinely is that good and I’ll always find a way to work it into rotation with my other stuff.

Haven’t used the phono input so cannot vouch for that. I listen to it in a very small (10x12 feet) listening room and there is some very quiet-but-just-about-audible transformer hum. I have to say, I’m pretty OCD about these things and at a listening distance of less than 6 feet it isn’t significant enough to bother me in the least. You’d truly need Golden Ears to hear it from a distance beyond that and I’m mentioning it purely for the sake of absolute transparency.

Other minor issues: the ‘bass contour’ button can make a momentary noise when pressed/released. The small buttons on this line are known for this and may need a clean.

The headphone socket won’t hold my headphone jack in place, so I haven’t been able to test it. Presumably there’s a retention spring or similar that needs to be adjusted/replaced.

Finally, one of the feet has been replaced.

I don’t have any service history for it, unfortunately. If I were planning to keep it long-term then I’d probably have it health-checked as a matter of course and in the event that it doesn’t sell that’s probably what I’ll do.

Please note - I’ve been using this amplifier for regular extended, critical (whatever that means!) listening sessions over a period of several months and have found it to be superb. This definitely isn’t one of those ‘tested for 5 minutes and seems to work’ situations.

Collection is from very close to Junction 26 of the M6.
