Up for sale is a vintage program issued for the 40th Anniversary All Breed Dog Show, as presented by the Louisiana Kennel Club, Inc. on Saturday November 6 and Sunday November 7, 1948, at the Municipal Auditorium, located on St. Ann Street.  This "unbenched" show was held under the rules of the American Kennel Club.

This program has 124 pages plus the covers.  It gives comprehensive information about the canine contestants, the judges, the vets, and the Officers and Executive Committee of the Club.  The welcoming message of President Arthur D. Greenburg states his belief that the Louisiana Kennel Club, Inc. was the oldest all breed club in the South, having been founded in 1908.

This program has many great ads for stud services, nutritional and other supplies for dogs, and for supportive businesses in New Orleans and in Louisiana.  I particularly liked the full page ad on the inside cover showing the "Movie Star" Lassie above a message for "Red Heart Dog Food", claiming that the collie was thriving on the product. 

The dog show was held in the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium (located on the edge of the French Quarter).  The facility had opened in about 1930 and was the site of dozens of carnival (Mardi Gras) balls every year.  It was inundated with 5 feet of water after the levee breaks that followed Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and has remained closed ever since.
