The complete title of this book is THE PASSING LAUGHTER: STORIES OF THE SOUTHLAND by Flo Scott, the compiler and editor of the subject material. She died in 1998, but I found both 1899 and 1905 listed as her birth year in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. She studied at Mississippi College for Women, and spent all her life in that state except for time later spent studying at the University of Chicago, George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, and the University of Colorado. She taught high school classes in Booneville, Mississippi, and later became head of the English Department at Central High School in Jackson, MS.

Scott signed this copy on the title page, but did not inscribe it to anyone. The book is blue cloth hardcover, stated 1968 Second Printing, 140 pages. Black & white illustrations are by Harry Maddox. B&W photos are by Gertrude Gibson and Mattie Lou Stribling. The B&W portrait following page 64 is by famed Mississippi artist Marie Hull. The book is in Very Good-to-Near Fine condition with hardly any wear, but it is starting to show some minor aging. The DJ has considerable wear, but there are no creases or long tears.

Scott and writer Eudora Welty were friends for many years. Included with this book are 12 pages of related material about Scott. One of those pages shows the cover of a published song written by Flo with a cover illustration drawn by Welty. Please read the first sentence just below the image. You will also notice the name of the song writer is Flo Field Hampton. At that time in her life she was not yet married. Hampton was her maiden name.

The book will be carefully packaged to insure safe shipping.
